Midwinter 2024 Talking Opera

Festival Artistic & General Director Rob Ainsley previewed the 2024 season for us at a midwinter Talking Opera program on Tuesday, February 6 at 7pm.  Our conversation with Rob about The Pirates of Penzance, Pagliacci, La Calisto, and Elizabeth Cree took place online, click the link below to listen in:

The Met Live in HD Programs

Abby Kreh Gibson will do a brief Zoom overview of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Forza del Destino – the force or power of destiny – on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 PM.  Verdi called it “an opera of vast dimensions”. He also called it “an opera of ideas” and filled it with a wide range of characters and emotions.  It is the Metropolitan Opera’s first new production of this opera in nearly 30 years and stars the Norwegian soprano, Lise Davidsen.

The HD Broadcast can be seen locally at the Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center, 24 Market Street, Oneonta, and at Munson in Utica at noon on March 9, 2024.

The Metropolitan Opera opened on September 26th with Dead Man Walking, and it will be its first 2023-2024 live HD Broadcast of the season on October 21, 2023 at 12:55 pm at the Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center in Oneonta, and Munson in Utica.The Guild’s Abby Kreh Gibson will give a brief education program before the HD Broadcast in the Upstairs Theater on the 2nd floor of the Foothills Performing Arts & Civic Center, 24 Market Street in Oneonta.  The theater will open at 11:30am, and the program will begin at 12:15 pm.

Abby did a 30 minute Zoom presentation on Wednesday,October 18 at 5:30 pm.

A Day at The Festival for Students - Thursday, August 8

A special day of programming for students and their chaperones who will attend the matinee of Rumplestilskin and the Unlovable Children. “This new opera is a story about found family, self-love and finding the freedom to be who you truly are. The children grow and change alongside the main characters and are the heart of the piece.” Jens Ibsen, Composer. 10:00 AM arrival time for the pre-performance program. 11:30 AM lunch provided. 1:00 PM performance. The seats are located in the balcony. Free Admission to the Day at the Festival for Students. Reservations are required by June 30, 2024. Call the Box Office at 607.547.2255 to reserve your ticket(s).

A Day at the Festival for Students in grades 7 through High School and College - Tuesday, July 16

A special event for seventh thru twelveth grade students who will attend a dress rehearsal of The Pirates of Penzance.  Information TBD.

Changeover Dinners

Prepare and serve dinner to the Festival staff from 4 to 6:30 pm on the following Saturdays;TBD
